Sixth Wave of 3rd Brigade Soldiers Spend First Day Back with Family

Stefanie Tiso

The sixth wave of Third Brigade soldiers spent the first day back home with their families. A few weeks ago, NBC 38 sat down with Carrie Snyder. The mother of three talked about what it was like having a husband overseas. But Specialist Jacob Snyder returned last night.

Soldiers stepped off the plane one-by-one. Families studied the screens to find their loved one. But Carrie says no matter how hard she tried, she just could not find her husband.

“I just assume he's not on it. That's okay... another person thought they had like four husbands on there cause they all look like him,” said Carrie.

Well, Specialist Jacob Snyder was on that flight. Returning from Iraq for the third time, it was the first time his dad and step mom were there with Carrie and the kids to greet him.

“When I told my friends at home that we were coming to do this we had so many people call us and tell us to tell him thank you,” said his stepmom, Virginia Pennington.

Before she could say thank you... a long wait as soldiers went through customs, in processing, and turned in equipment.

“Knowing he's here just a few feet away and can't run to him and give him a hug and everything,” said Carrie.

“They open those doors in that crows and you're like whoa… ladies and gentlemen the Beatles or something,” said Specialist Snyder.

Specialist Snyder is one of 350 Third Brigade soldiers that returned on last night's flight. And today it's been a lot of family time, relaxation and even a first trip to Wal-mart.

“Just being our usual selves that we normally do on Sundays, weekend mornings,” said Carrie.

“I'm out of a uniform, in regular shoes,” said her husband.

Out of his boots for the first time in 15 months, specialist Snyder's biggest surprise... his twins are big!

“I've hardly seen them since they've been born. I've watched them grow up on the Internet basically. And now seeing, wow they're huge,” he said.

Kellen and AJ still a little unsure of who dad is... Emily couldn't get enough.

“Didn't want to leave daddy alone, she's all over him,” said Carrie.
