“The Chattahoochee Claims Two Young Lives”

Maria Jones

Tragedy struck over the weekend as two young brothers lost their lives in the Chattahoochee River. NBC 38’s Maria Jones sat down with the victim’s family. A grief stricken and tearful father stated, “I’m gonna miss their, their, their faces. The things that we do, I’m going to miss everything about them,” Arthur Rozier stated. “They’re you know lovely, wonderful kids. I enjoyed them being here with me. And then you know it’s a terrible lost, my heart is saddened, cause I miss them very much,” the boys grandmother, Adrene Chapman added. Words from a grieving family, who say the pain is more than they can bear. According to their grandmother, Elijah and Arturio said they were going to the park to play but must have changed their plans and headed to the river. “Said they was gone go and play on the monkey bars, and I told them don’t go any further than the school grounds. That’s because I’m coming over and gone check and see if you are there. So when they stayed quite a while, and I went to check on them like I promised and they were gone,” Chapman added. It’s a difficult day for teachers and students as they return to Key Elementary without two of their classmates. The Muscogee County School District has plans in place to provide grief counseling for students and faculty. Muscogee County School District PIO Valerie Fuller stated, “This morning we had of course, counselors on hand to help students cope with the situation. Basically the principal and the counselors, school psychologists went room to room. Trying to explain what happened over the weekend with the two students, helping them to cope with, not just explaining what happened but their feelings.” “It was a big shock to me, and my mind was not on this kinda thing happening, my mind was on trying to make a happy home for them.” FOR WLTZ NBC 38, I’m Maria Jones
