Columbus Tech Hold Kia Job Fair

Julie Bercik

People who want to work at the Kia Plant in West Point, spent one-on-one time with Kia reps.

Wednesday morning, Columbus Technical College hosted the Kia Job Fair.

Potential employees learned about available positions, benefits and much more.

Dressed to impress, hundreds packed the student center of Columbus technical college hoping to land a job with Kia.

The wait at times was a little longer than some would have preferred, but it was worth it.

"I really just want to get in the door with Kia, and just progress from there, maybe work up to the management level," said Gary Dark, Kia applicant.

Getting in the door is what attracted lines of people to the fair.

" I'm actually pretty close to graduating, so I decided it would be a good thing for me to come out and see what's going on and get more information," said Adrian Deida, Columbus Tech student and Kia applicant.

Kia representatives spent hours talking to perspective employees, answering any questions about the job.

" Kia has come to the campus and basically verify that all interested applicants are doing their applications. They’re trying to give them that information," said Tommy Wilson, Dean of Professional and Technical Services at Columbus Tech.

For one Columbus Tech student , they aren't too many questions, he's just ready to work . As part of the Automotive Production Program, Cornell knows his training will pay off.

" It's given me a head start basically if I wouldn't have had the course. I think that if they hire me, they'll get a dependable worker," said Cornell, Columbus Tech student.

The same goes for Adrian Deida.

"The skills that I have learned here will help me as far as the production line for Kia, and I believe that will enable me to do well," said Deida.

While each applicant brings different skills and strengths to the job, all of them agree on thing: They really want the job.

" Kia will return to Columbus once more for the career fair at the Convention and Trade Center on February 7th, which is also the last day to apply.

Officials at Columbus tech said 400 people attended today's job fair.
