We are talking about business expansions and also new retails stores coming to the area.
Auto Supplier, Mando America adding 17 employees. Nature Made Vitamin Maker, Pharmavite, adding 11.
Those two companies already employ hundreds here.
“When you have companies that have been in your community for that length of time and continue to invest in their facilities, it’s always a great sign,” said Lori Huguley, Economic Development Director for the City of Opelika.
On the other side of town, two new buildings going up in Tiger Town.
“There’s going to be a certain group of people that will be excited because we don’t have a store like this here,” said Eddie Smith, Opelika Council President/Ward 4 Representative.
An 18,000 sq. ft. building, holds one company. A 16,000 sq. ft. space, can hold up to five businesses.
“I think these new stores are going to enhance what we already have there,” said Smith.
Another 50 people expected to be hired for these expansions.
“Jobs lead to people that will live in our community, which leads to more houses, kids for schools, when you look at the bigger picture, it’s more than just a $5 million capital investment and 30 to 40 jobs. It’s much bigger with all the things that go with that,” said Smith.
Those expansions worth $22 million invested into the city.
“If they choose to invest in your community, they have trust in the community and they believe in the people working there. So, it’s a good sign for us and for the workforce they’ve been able to establish,” said Huguley.
Officials excited about those expansions and working to attract new businesses to the area, too.
“We’re going to continue to see quality companies who want to locate in our area. So, I’m excited for the future and what it holds for Opelika,” said Huguley.
They are not revealing what the new stores will be just yet, but once they do, we’ll keep you updated.
