Russell County High School Hosts 2nd Annual Baseball Alumni Game

CURRENT AND FORMER MINOR AND MAJOR LEAGUERS MET IN SEALE, AL FOR ALUMNI GAME

The Rasmus family has made a name for themselves in our area dating back to the 1999 Little League World Series.

Father, Tony Rasmus, coached the Phenix City team to the championship with sons Cory and Colby on the roster.

Nineteen years later and the family still finds time to get back to where it all started, at Russell County high school.

Russell County high school hosted it s 2nd annual warrior baseball alumni game this weekend.

Last year the young guns beat out the alumni so they decided to change things up.

“Some of our older alumni cost us the game so this year they said, ‘hey lets have a softball game early in the morning for the more out of shape players and then we want to beat your varsity in the afternoon’,” says Russell County head baseball coach Tony Rasmus.

It’s all fun and games throughout the day for the varsity baseball team getting to hangout with former and current major leaguers, but don’t be mistaken they’re all playing for bragging rights.

“We are really playing for keeps out here. All they do is talk crap and that’s what we do so we are going to give it a shot,” says Russell County sophomore middle infielder Hunter Donaldson.

“They definitely got the best of us no doubt. They were definitely a little bit better than we thought they were so they beat us pretty good last year so we are going to try and change the tide this year,” says Russell County high school grad and former minor league player Casey Rasmus.

The alumni team featured Arizona Diamondbacks Anfernee Grier and former major and minor league players like Tyler Dial, Danny Danielson, Bryce Lane, and the Rasmus brothers.

“I mean it’s a dream to play with pro guys, former pro guys and its not an experience that everybody can have so its pretty fun,” says Russell County sophomore third baseman and pitcher Zack Henderson.

The alumni redeemed themselves this year defeating the varsity team 9-7. Russell county will get its season started here in the next few weeks.
