SEN. MARCO RUBIO FIRES CHIEF OF STAFF OVER 'ALLEGATIONS OF IMPROPER CONDUCT'

(CNN) – Senator Marco Rubio has fired his chief of staff over “allegations of improper conduct.”

The Republican lawmaker released a statement Saturday announcing the decision.

In it, Rubio said an investigation found the staffer engaged in behavior that “amounted to threats to withhold employment benefits.”

Rubio said he became aware of the allegations on Friday; then on Saturday, traveled from Florida to Washington and “terminated his employment effective immediately.”

Rubio does not identify the Chief of Staff by name in the statement.
