MLK Events Across the Chattahoochee & The Plains

Many people in our community will be celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Monday and we have a few events to tell you about.

Monday at 8 a.m-1 p.m.EST, you can join the 2018 MLK Day of Service Project to beautify the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Outdoor Learning Trail in Columbus. Their goal is to make this the largest student centered event in Georgia. Volunteers will remove trash and debris from the trail. Meeting Location #1: Muscogee County School District Building 2960 Macon Road Columbus, GA 31906 Meeting Location #2: A. J. McClung YMCA 1175 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Columbus, GA 31906.

Join Midtown Medical Center for their Dr. King service. 
It’s at 11 a.m. EST in their conference room. It’s free and open to the public. This year’s guest speaker is Pastor Bryan Loritts, Senior minister of Abundant Life Fellowship in Fountain Valley, California and author of five books.

Over in Alabama, Civil Rights Activist Andrew Young, confidant to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will be the keynote speaker for Auburn University’s annual scholarship breakfast. It’s from 7:30-9:30 a.m. CST, at the Hotel at Auburn University. Young’s talk will focus on “Bridging the Gap: A Quest For Peace and Justice” of Dr. King’s life, work and his ideals for peace and unity.
