2017 Was Safe Year for Air Travel

AVIATION SAFETY NETWORK: FLYING IN 2017 WAS SAFER THAN IT'S EVER BEEN

(CNN) – It appears flying in 2017 was relatively safe compared to previous years.

The Aviation Safety Network says there were 10 fatal commercial passenger and cargo air crashes last year.

44 passengers and crew members were killed.

That’s much lower than the five-year average of 17 crashes with 495 deaths.

All of last year’s plane deaths occurred either on cargo planes or smaller, propeller-driven passenger aircraft.

In addition, major U.S. airlines have not suffered a fatal crash since 2001 and there has not been a fatality aboard a u-s carrier in nearly nine years.
