A witness said onlookers were shocked at the scene, a man speeding down Buena Vista Road appeared to show no regard for  children crossing  at the busy intersection.

A witness said the impact sent the teen victim airborne.

The victim was transported to the hospital with extensive injuries.

The suspect sped off to an apartment complex off Warm Springs Road where he was taken into police custody a short time later.

Malcolm Johnson was arrested and charged with three counts including leaving the scene of an accident, failure to render aid and duty to report an accident or injury.

The investigation is ongoing and Detectives will determine exactly how fast Johnson was driving when he struck the teen.

Johnson is currently free on bond but the charges could be upgraded if the victim does not survive those critical injuries.
