Cervical Ring Prolongs Pregnancy

Cervical ring helping women carry babies longer in pregnancy.

In Your Health Minute,

A small cervical device may help lower the risk of preterm birth in high risk women.

Researchers in Italy tested the silicone ring on pregnant women with a short cervix.

They were half as likely to deliver before 34 weeks than women who did not get the device.

More studies are needed to confirm these findings.

The device — called a cervical pessary –– helps keep the cervix closed.
