1983 Racially Motivated Killing-Hearing

NEW HEARING FOR A 34-YEAR-OLD MURDER CASE, BELIEVED TO BE RACIALLY MOTIVATED

Spalding County, GA (CNN) –  A 34-year-old murder case in Georgia could go before a grand jury as early as next week.

Two men are accused of murdering Timothy Coggins, who was dragged behind a truck and stabbed numerous times in Spalding County.

Prosecutors say the murder was racially motivated and happened because Coggins was socializing with a white female.

A magistrate judge on Thursday ruled that there was probable cause to move the case to a Superior Court.

Frank Gebhardt and William Moore remain in jail without bond.

The murder case went cold for decades, until October when new witnesses came forward.
