Alabama’s Playoff Hopes Still Alive
THE SCENARIOS THAT BEST SUIT ALABAMA TO GET BACK INTO THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF
The winner of the SEC championship game between Auburn and Georgia is almost guaranteed to have a spot in the playoffs, but can the Crimson Tide squeak back into the picture?
FiveThirtyEight breaks it down for us.
Lets say Clemson, Oklahoma, Auburn and Ohio State win on Saturday.
FiveThirtyEight gives the edge to Ohio State, with a 49% chance to be in the playoffs and Alabama a 33% chance.
But let’s say there’s some chaos in the Big 12.
If TCU beats Oklahoma in the big 12 championship game and Ohio State beats Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game, then the Crimson Tides chance to make the playoffs sky rockets to 55%
If that outcome plays out on Saturday then there’s a chance that both Ohio state and Alabama can get back into the playoffs.
The one thing Alabama can’t afford is the current top four teams to win their conference.
That would knock them out of the playoff contention for the first time since the playoff system was installed in the 2014 season.
