Roy Moore Facing Accusations of Improper Sexual Contact

The post article reports that the alleged incidents happened in 1979 and into the early 80's while Moore was serving as an assistant district attorney for Etowah county.

Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore is under fire after a Washington Post article reports that Moore had inappropriate relationships with underage girls when he was in his thirties.

One woman says she was 14-years-old when Moore touched her over her underwear and he placed her hand on his crotch over his underwear.

Three other women interviewed say Moore dated them, too.

Those women ranged in age from 16 to 18 years old when the relationships allegedly occurred.

The post article reports that the alleged incidents happened in 1979 and into the early 80’s while Moore was serving as an assistant district attorney for Etowah county in his hometown of Gadsden.

The woman who alleges a sexual encounter with Moore when she was 14, never reported the incident to police and says she only told her mother about it years later.

The statute of limitations for any potential criminal prosecution and civil suits in a case like this expired years ago.

One of the other women interviewed alleges that Moore gave her alcohol when she was 18.

The legal drinking age in Alabama at the time was 19.

Roy Moore says, the allegations in the Washington Post article are completely false and a desperate political attack.”

A statement released by Moore’s campaign says,

“After over 40 years of public service, if any of these allegations were true, they would have been made public long before now.”

“this garbage is the very definition of fake news and intentional defamation.”

After the Washington Post article broke, U. S. Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell said about Moore: “If these allegations are true, he must step aside.”

Other Senior GOP  senators have made similar statements.

Even if Moore were to drop out, it’s too late for his name to be removed from the ballot.

The Alabama secretary of state says the party and candidate can revoke a candidate’s nomination, but his name would still be on the ballot, because a key deadline has already passed.

If a candidate’s nomination is revoked and he still gets the most votes, the state canvassing board would declare his opponent the winner.

Election day is December 12-th.
