Scholar Athlete: Central Pitcher, Gracie Deaton
DEATON HAS MORE THAN 100 STRIKEOUTS ON THE SEASON AND HOLDS A 4.0 GPA
Central pitcher Gracie Deaton can easily remember her favorite moment thus far.
“We just played Rehobeth two weekends ago in Hoover and it was probably the best game I‘ve pitched all year,” she said. “We’ve never beaten Rehobeth and I was hitting my spot, I was so focused, and I was really proud of that.”
Deaton has more than 100 strikeouts and 20 wins on the year.
She threw a no-hitter last season and has kept her team at the top of their region.
“I’ve thrown a couple of shutouts and throwing a shutout is one of the best things ever,” Deaton said. “It makes me real proud.”
She’s also proud of her academic record.
Deaton holds a 4.0 GPA and is in the National Honor Society and the Beta Club.
This year, she’s taking four dual-enrollment classes, not for college, but for the challenge.
“Push myself,” she said. “I just want to do better and i know it’s gonna help me when I get to college.”
Deaton hopes to study cyber security after high school as well as continue playing softball.
She already holds a few JUCO offers and is excited that her softball career doesn’t have to come to an end.
“I love playing softball and being able to do that when I get into college.”
