Scholar Athlete: Columbus golfer, Jonathan Parker
PARKER MAINTAINS A 4.3 GPA AND VOLUNTEERS WITH FORE KIDS COLUMBUS
As a sophomore on the Columbus High golf team, Jonathan Parker is making a name for himself.
“I played in the Tournament of Champions in the Southeastern Junior Golf tour in December and I came in third overall for that,” he said.
Parker is currently ranked as one of the top ten players in the state of Georgia for his class and is coming off a freshman campaign that earned him multiple honors.
Parker has been golfing for what seems like his entire life. It’s all thanks to his father.
“It’s actually pretty fun,” he said. “He’s kind of like my friend and so we can just go out there and have fun together.”
With just under two years of high school completed, Parker already boasts a 4.375 GPA.
When he’s not busy studying or competing, he’s still on the golf course, volunteering his time with Fore Kids Columbus.
“It’s cool and it’s fun,” said Parker. “Me and a couple other teammates go out there and help and volunteer and teach them how to play golf.”
And he’s hoping this is just the start of a long golf career.
Parker has plenty of time to perfect his game as he aims to get a golf scholarship.
“For me it’s just gonna take a lot of practice and keep playing well in tournaments,” he said.
