Auburn High Baseball Wins Area Title, Punches Ticket to Playoffs

AUBURN AND CENTRAL EARN AHSAA 7A SPOTS IN THE POSTSEASON

The Auburn High baseball team was beaten last year in the 2016 AHSAA 7A State Championship game.

This year, theyr’e looking to get back.

The Tigers beat Smiths Station Thursday night 11-1 to secure a spot in the postseason. not only did the win give them the 7A area title, it gave them home field advantage in the postseason.

“That’s very big because it gives the kids a lot of confidence to win the area and play at home,” head coach Matt Cimo said after their win. “Our ballpark always gives our kids a lot of confidence and our fans are so great at our place, it’s just great to be at home.”

With the win, the Central Red Devils also earned a spot and enter the playoffs as the area’s two seed. They’ll travel to Theodore for next week’s first round.

Smiths Station, with the loss, was eliminated from the postseason as only two area teams can advance.
