Auburn Quarterback Battle the Focus of Saturday’s A-Day

The quarterback position for Auburn was plagued with injury and inconsistency during an 8-4 season in 2016.  This Saturday Tiger fans hope to see evidence 2017 will be much different as the quarterback battle will be the focus of A-Day.

Sean White, who started much of 2016 before injuries sidelined him late, was limited throughout most of spring practice as he recovers from surgery.  That opened the door for Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham to gain valuable reps as he eyes the starting job.

Still, new Auburn offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey won’t be looking to overwork his quarterback unit.  “We’re not going to be able to kind of reinvent the wheel for the A-Day game,” Lindsey said recently.  “But at the end of the day, we’ve got to really try to focus on the things that we’ve already done and really get our guys to see who can execute our base plays that we’ve been running and who leads our team.”

Former quarterback John Franklin will continue experimenting at his new position of receiver, a move that was recently made during spring practice.

The Auburn defense faces a tall task as well.  Coordinator Kevin Steele faces big losses at every level of his unit as former standouts like Montravius Adams, Carl Lawson, and Rudy Ford have all moved on.

A-Day kicks off from Jordan-Hare Stadium at 1:00pm central.
