Columbus Man Leads Troopers & Police on High Speed Chase

A Columbus man will face a list of charges after leading Alabama State Troopers and police on a high speed chase.
The chase began just after 7 p.m. in Lee County and ended on JR Allen Parkway in Columbus after the suspect, John Smith, crashed into another vehicle.

Smith was hurt during the pursuit and is now in the hospital.

He’s charged with attempted assault, reckless endangerment and attempting to elude along with numerous traffic violations.

He already had outstanding felony warrants.

Smith hit three other cars, but those involved in the collision have non-life threatening injuries.

He also struck a trooper’s vehicle during the chase.
