Divorce rates drops to 35-year low
(CNN) – Divorce rates in the U.S. plunge to a 35-year low.
What is going on?
Well it’s hard to pin point… But factors could include the aging of the U.S. population, changing gender roles or the simple fact that not many people are getting married.
But marriage rates have remained stable, with about 32 marriages for every 1,000 unmarried women age 15 or older.
Utah has the highest marriage rate in the U.S., but here’s a surprise, its divorce rate is higher than in 40% of states.
Some Americans are foregoing marriage to stay single and live alone, or to co-habitate with their partners without tying the knot.
The new data is from the national center for family and marriage research at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
