Navy security breach/social security numbers exposed
(CNN) – The U.S. Navy is warning more than 130,000 sailors about a hack exposing their names and social security numbers.
The Navy says "unauthorized individuals" accessed the information after a breach involving a Hewlett-Packard worker’s laptop.
Chief of Naval Personnel Vice Admiral Robert Burke says the service takes the incident "extremely seriously" and is a "matter of trust."
Those affected, which include former and current sailors, will be notified in the next few weeks.
The Navy says at this stage of the investigation, there is no evidence to suggest misuse of the information that was compromised.
