Former MLB pitcher Ralph Branca dies at 90

(CNN) – An all-star player for the Brooklyn Dodgers has passed away.

Ralph Theodore Joseph Branca is best known as the unlucky pitcher behind one of the most memorable moments in baseball history; the so-called "shot heard round the world".

With that one hit against him, Branca and the Dodgers lost the 1951 National League Championship to the Giants.

Branca died Tuesday in his Rye, New York Home.

No cause was given.

He was 90 years old.
