Columbus State volleyball eyeing first round win in PBC Tournament
The Columbus State volleyball team is still practicing after earning a spot in the Peach Belt Conference postseason.
The Lady Cougars defeated Montevallo Friday night to earn the 8th and final seed in the annual Conference Tournament.
They’re no strangers to the event, in fact they’ve made it this far two other times but they haven’t been able to get past the first round.
"The two times prior to this that we went, we always competed with Montevallo," head coach Casey Cornett said. "So maybe we’ll have some luck going into the Tournament playing somebody different. We’re not ready to be one and done."
The seniors on this team feel the same way. They’re the first four-year graduating class this program has had since being re-started a couple of years ago. As their playing career comes to an end, they’d like to play as long as possible.
"We’d really like to make it past the first round," said senior outside hitter Mary McCarty. "So it’d be really really exciting and a really huge thing for this program."
The Cougars are the 8th seed in the Tournament and play Flagler this Thursday.
