Marion County’s Madison McPherson headed to the SEC

A lot of high school athletes have dreams of playing at the Division-I level and one Marion County softball player is getting that chance.

On Wednesday, pitcher Madison McPherson signed a scholarship to play the University of Georgia.

McPherson is a top prospect in the state of Georgia, helping to lead the Eagles to a GHSA playoff appearance this year. During her senior campaign, she racked up more than 170 strikeouts and had a 1.36 ERA.

McPherson says she’s excited to take the next step in her career, especially getting the chance to play for an elite program.

"They’ve gone to the World Series, they’ve been to Oklahoma City, and I just hope I can help make a difference when I go," McPherson said. "Hopefully we’ll go for the next four years when I get there."

McPherson was also a solid hitter, ending her senior year with a .530 batting average.
