Beauregard’s Bailie Barnes makes school history

Bailie Barnes has put her name in the Beauregard record book.

The senior softball pitcher signed a scholarship on Wednesday morning with the University of Alabama at Birmingham. By signing that scholarship, she becomes the first softball player at Beauregard High School to sign with a Division-I school.

"All girls want to go to the Division-I level but me being the first is special because I’ve worked really hard to get here," Barnes said. "You give up a lot, but it’s great in the end."

Barnes is one of the top prospects in the state of Alabama. She went 21-10-1 as a junior last season with a 1.48 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP and 177 strikeouts in 203 2/3 innings. She also pitched seven shutouts.

Barnes was a first-team all-state selection in both 2015 and 2016.
