Auburn family comes together for Bruce, Barkley and Basketball golf classic

You’ve heard it many times before, home is where the heart is. For many, Auburn is their home, the place they got their start and the place they always feel welcome and a part of the Auburn family.

On Monday, an inaugural event was held at Grand National golf course in Opelika, Alabama where former Auburn stars got together to supports the men’s basketball program and the University.

It was called the Bruce, Barkley and basketball golf classic. Those in attendance included head coach Bruce Pearl and former Auburn great Charles Barkley.

Monday was more than just a round of golf though, it was about supporting and getting excited about the men’s basketball team and the upcoming season.

Barkley and many others have been known for their continued support of the University and the entire Auburn family and this event was no different.

"Every time I come to Auburn it’s like a family reunion. As I travel the world, people are yelling ‘War Eagle’ at me and it’s pretty special," Barkley said. "Everybody talks about how their college is special. I know for a fact my college is special."

"Being an Auburn guy, you love to be a part of anything the Auburn family has going on and obviously anytime you have Charles Barkley involved with something, it’s gonna be a fun day," retired MLB pitcher Tim Hudson said.

"That’s one thing that’s been just beyond my wildest expectation is the support from the Auburn family," head coach Bruce Pearl said. "They’re excited about what we’ve done and looking forward to what we’re going to be doing."

Other celebrities who took part included PGA Tour golfer Jason Dufner and former NFL player Ronnie Brown.
