New look, same tradition for the Columbus State women’s basketball team

New look, same tradition. That’s the theme of the Columbus State women’s basketball team as they begin preps for the upcoming season.

The Lady Cougars welcome back six players from last year’s team that finished 25-6 and won the Peach Belt Conference regular season. Along with those six returnees are eight new faces and a new head coach.

Anita Howard takes over the program after Jonathan Norton re-signed following the 2015 season. Howard says she’s excited to lead a program with such a rich tradition.

"The pre-season has been phenomenal," Howard said. "I couldn’t have asked for a better pre-season out of the young ladies. Everybody’s working hard and so it’s just kind of a contagious atmosphere with everybody wanting and gunning for that championship ring."

The girls have adjusted well and are hungry to get that national title.

"We’re very eager to get back out there and show everybody what we’re made of and to get even farther in the tournament," said senior Brittney Tatum.

The Lady Cougars kick off exhibition play on November 12th at the Lumpkin Center. They play Agnes Scott.
