GOP firebombing probed
(NBC News) Federal and state investigators in Orange County, North Carolina are trying to figure out who firebombed a Republican Party campaign office there over the weekend.
The damage at the Hillsborough office is extensive: A burned couch and chair, singed walls and campaign signs.
"This is a horrific, horrific act of political terrorism," says North Carolina GOP Executive Director Dallas Woodhouse.
A nearby business owner discovered the damage Sunday morning.
No one was there when the device crashed through the window. Painted on a nearby wall was a message, "nazi republicans, leave town or else."
Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump blamed his opponent, tweeting:
"Animals representing Hillary Clinton and Dems in North Carolina just firebombed our office in Orange County because we are winning…
Clinton tweeted her own response, stating:
"The attack on the Orange County HG @NCGOP office is horrific and unacceptable Very grateful that everyone is safe."
A group of Democrats has quickly raised more than $10,000 online to help reopen the office.
