Judge extends Florida voting registration to October 18th

(WSVN) – A federal judge is extending Florida’s voter registration deadline because of hurricane Matthew.

The new deadline is October 18th.

The original deadline was Tuesday.

The Florida Democratic party and other groups including Hillary Clinton’s campaign argued that extended voter registration was needed because of the effects of the storm.

They argued that the hurricane caused daunting and life threatening obstacles to register to vote.

Last week, Republican Governor Rick Scott said he didn’t "intend to make changes" to the deadline saying that "people have had time to register."
