Game of the week preview: LaGrange at Troup County
It’s never easy watching your team play without you. Just ask Laperion Perry.
"I love the game and I didn’t get to play," Perry said.
It was off-season hip surgery that forced the LaGrange quarterback to sit out a couple of games. But Perry is healed. He’s back on the field and ready to give the Grangers that spark they’ve been missing.
"The team spirit has been elevated, our play on the field has been elevated," said head coach Dialleo Burks. "Just to get him back on the field and to allow him to play the game and live out his dream- that’s it for me."
The Grangers are more than halfway through their season and need a couple of big wins if they want to make the postseason. This Friday is an opportunity as they take on one of their cross town rivals in the Troup County Tigers.
"Region-wise it’s a big game because it’ll put is in position for to secure a spot in the postseason or at least keep us on the road," Burks said.
Because the Tigers are hot. They’re undefeated in region play and have more confidence than ever after coming off a huge win against Sandy Creek.
"I think it showed we’re making progress and not just being a regular team," said quarterback Montez Crowe. "We’re a team to contend with."
Because the Tigers have done a lot in one year. After winning just one game last season, they’re already up to five wins this year. Second year head coach Tanner Glisson says it’s because of his kids hard work ethic that they’re succeeding and only sees them going up from here.
"They’ve been a great group to be around," Glisson said. "They let us push them hard, they let us coach them hard and when you have that, you always have a chance."
LaGrange and Troup County kick-off on Friday at 7:30pm.
