Columbus Cottonmouths begin training camp

Training camp has begun for the Columbus Cottonmouths as they prep for the upcoming season.

The Cottonmouths welcome back some veterans like Kyle Johnson and a couple of new players as they look to re-build their squad.

While the first day of camp is always exciting, there’s a sense of hunger as the team looks to improve on last year’s last place finish in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

"Last season is something we don’t want to talk about but if we’re gonna use that as a bar, there’s no where to go but up," said defenseman Kyle Johnson. "I think we’re ready to go and really show the league what we can do this season."

"The biggest thing that I’ve been stressing this year is it’s all team," said head coach Jerome Bechard. "There is no "I" in team, everything you do has to be for the better of the team."

The Cottonmouths’ 21st season begins Friday, October 21st when the they travel to Macon.
