Samsung kills Galaxy Note 7

(NBC News) Samsung has pulled the plug on its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone.

What started as the recall of millions of the devices escalated to Samsung halting the exchanges and sales of its replacement as well.

Samsung’s announcement comes after numerous reports of replacement Galaxy Note 7 phones catching fire.

There’s no word on whether the replacement Note 7’s are affected by the same battery issue impacting the original model. Nonetheless, Samsung says for consumers’ safety, it’s stopping sales, exchanges and production of the Note 7.

The Note 7 shutdown comes just two months after its launch and sales of 2.5 million units.

Samsung advises Note 7 customers to "power down and take advantage of the remedies available, including a refund at their place of purchase".
