Columbus State’s Spano earns PBC player of the week honor
Behind a record-setting performance, Columbus State University soccer player Flo Spano was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Spano is the second Lady Cougar to win the award in the first three weeks of the season after Nicole Corcione earned the honor the opening week.
The freshman recorded just the 12th hat trick in Lady Cougar history Saturday against USC Aiken. Spano scored her first collegiate goal in the 25th minute to extend CSU’s lead out to 2-0. The hat trick was completed in the latter portion of the second half as she got on the board again in the 73rd and 84th minutes.
In addition to the trio of goals, Spano added a pair of assists in the 7-0 victory. The eight total points broke the Columbus State single-match record set by Corcione one season ago.
Spano and the Lady Cougars are back on the pitch against conference rival North Georgia on Wednesday night. Kickoff in Dahlonega, Ga. is scheduled for 6 p.m.
