CSU women’s soccer earns first #1 ranking
For the first time in program history, the Columbus State University women’s soccer team earned the top spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America rankings. The Lady Cougars jumped ahead of previously top-ranked Grand Valley State after the Lakers drew Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday. Columbus State opened up the 2016 regular season with a pair of wins during the CSU Collegiate Invitational last weekend.
Columbus State heads on the road for the next three matches, two of which will come against ranked opponents. The trip starts Friday with a match at Lynn, after which the Lady Cougars will have a national quarterfinal rematch at 12th-ranked Barry on Sunday. Following the swing through Florida, CSU will head up to Tennessee for a showdown against No. 22 Lee.
The Lady Cougars will travel to another ranked foe on September 21 when they go north to take on conference rival and 17th-ranked North Georgia.
Kickoff for Friday’s match at Lynn is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Boca Raton, Florida.
