San Francisco 1st city with fully paid parental leave
(CNN) – San Francisco is set to become the first city in U.S. to require fully paid parental leave.
New parents will soon get six weeks of fully paid leave in order to bond with their new child.
The law will apply to both full-time and part-time employees.
California already requires employees receive 55% of their pay for up to six weeks.
The new rule will require companies in San Francisco to pay workers the remaining 45% of their wages during family leave.
The rule; aimed at businesses with more than 20 employees will be phased in over time starting in January of next year.
