Military to award new medal for fighting ISIS
(CNN) – The Pentagon is introducing a new military medal to honor U.S. troops deployed in the fight against the terror group ISIS.
It’s called the inherent resolve campaign medal, and it’s named for the current anti-ISIS operation.
The Pentagon says service members are eligible if they participate in the operation for at least 30 days and have served in Iraq, Syria or neighboring waters and airspace on or after June 15th, 2014.
About 11,000 service members already qualify for the medal.
The medal was created via executive order by President Obama.
Senior Pentagon officials recommended it be created to recognize the dangers service members face fighting ISIS.
