Food for your eyes
Yokomoha, Japan (NTV) A company in Yokohama, Japan is creating food that’s literally too pretty to eat.
The food items crafted at Iwasaki Be-I are actually made from resin. Most will end up at restaurants in Japan, where its common to use models to entice customers.
Each individual work is made by hand and begins with a cast of the real thing.
Employees tend to specialize in one particular area, such as dessert or Chinese food.
"Items from nature, such as fish and vegetables, are the most challenging to reproduce accurately," says sculptor Sadaharu Terashima
It takes time to develop certain artistic skills. Adding color is one of the most difficult parts of the process. Craftsmen work for years to make food look more delicious than the real thing.
The company also offers classes in Tokyo where anyone can learn to make mouthwatering copies of their favorite foods.
