Officers charged after school slap

Baltimore, MD (WBAL) Two Baltimore City School Police officers seen in a viral video that shows one of them hitting a student are out of jail on bond after being arrested and charged overnight Wednesday.

Anthony Spence, 44, the officer seen hitting the student at REACH Partnership Middle/High School, faces three charges: second-degree child abuse, which is a felony, along with second-degree assault and misconduct in office. The latter two charges are misdemeanors. He is on administrative leave without pay.

"His status has changed from administrative leave with pay to administrative leave without pay pursuant to Law Enforcement Officer’s Bill of Rights," acting school police Chief Akil Hamm said.

The other officer in the video, Saverna Bias, 53, is charged with second-degree assault and misconduct in office. She is on administrative leave with pay.
