Taking on Trump
The former Massachusetts governor gave his insight into the state of the 2016 presidential race during a speech in Salt Lake City, focusing mostly on Trump.
"Let me put it very plainly, if we Republicans choose Donald Trump as our nominee, the prospects for a safe and prosperous future are greatly diminished," Romney said.
He labeled Trump as a bully who threatens America’s future, stressing that Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Marco Rubio or Governor John Kasich should be the Republican presidential nominee.
"Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University," Romney went on. "He’s playing the members of the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat."
Trump fired back during a press conference of his own.
"Mitt is a failed candidate, he failed," Trump said, adding "He was begging for my endorsement, I could have said ‘Mitt, drop to your knees,’ he would have dropped to his knees!"
