Salem, MA (NECN) A teenager who raped and killed his high school math teacher was sentenced to life in prison with eligibility for parole in 25 years. Philip Chism was convicted in December in the 2013 death of Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer.
Chism was 14 when he followed the 24 year old Ritzer into a school bathroom, strangled her, stabbed her at least 16 times and raped her. Philip Chism stared stoically ahead as the judge sentenced him to life in prison.
"Her killer knew exactly what he was doing and had never shown remorse, I hate Colleen’s killer and will never forgive him, he’s evil, pure evil and must be punished," says Colleen’s father, Tom Ritzer.
Ritzer’s parents wiped away tears as they remembered their smiling, joyous eldest child and the pain of her loss.
