New Zika warnings issued

(NBC News) The nation’s top health officials updated Congress Wednesday on the efforts to study and possibly treat diseases suspected of being caused by the Zika virus, which is spreading rapidly in south america.

Director of the Centers for Disease Control Dr. Tom Frieden warned Congress that pregnant woman are the most vulnerable to the effects of a Zika infection and that the disease was detected in the brains of four babies in South America who suffered from microcephaly and died shortly after birth.

He stopped short of saying there is a definitive connection between Zika and the deaths of those children, instead emphasizing that it was the strongest evidence to date.
