Dee Armstrong Headed to mornings on WLTZ-TV to anchor WLTZ First News Today
COLUMBUS, Ga. – WLTZ-TV evening news anchor, Dee Armstrong, will be moving from the night side to mornings to anchor the station’s morning newscast, ‘WLTZ First News Today”, in the very near future.
“I am tremendously excited to have Dee moving to the mornings for our station,” said Drew Rhodes, General Manager for WLTZ-TV. “Dee Armstrong has been known for years in our market as THE most popular and respected news anchor. She has turned down offers to work in Los Angeles and Atlanta through the years to remain in her hometown of Columbus, GA in order to raise her family here,” added Rhodes.
Ms. Armstrong commented, “I’m excited because we’re going to have a fiercely competitive product in the mornings that I’m sure our viewers are going to enjoy watching. It’s going to be fun!”
Rhodes reiterated, “Television is rapidly changing as most of us in the industry have noticed over the last couple of years. With that said, one of the changes is the mornings have become the new ‘prime time’. It happened at the network level several years ago with the networks adding more people and resources on the morning shows. Now, that same philosophy is trickling down to the local television stations.” He included, “It’s simply a case that more viewership and revenue can be garnered and made in the morning than at night.”
“Having an anchor with as much experience and popularity in our market as Dee anchoring our morning newscast is just incredible”, said Andrea Clenney, news director.
“WLTZ First News Today” which airs 5-7am on WLTZ-TV, the NBC affiliate here in the Columbus, GA market, and from 7-7:30am on The CW Ga-Bama, continues to grow and will be going through some changes in the next couple of weeks.
WLTZ-TV is dedicated to serving the communities in our 16 county area of Georgia and Alabama which includes Columbus, Americus, Auburn, Opelika, LaGrange, Phenix City, and Eufaula as well as the smaller surrounding communities.
