CSU Men’s Basketball Releases 2015-2016 Schedule

Coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance last season, Columbus State University head men’s basketball coach Robert Moore has announced the schedule for the 2015-16 season. The 26-game regular season slate is perfectly split with 13 games inside the Lumpkin Center and 13 away from home. The Cougars will hit the floor for the first time on Thursday, Nov. 5 for a home exhibition date against the Army All-Stars.

"The schedule is going to be very competitive,” said Moore. “With so many new players, the out of conference schedule is going to be extremely important for us to build confidence and team chemistry. We are looking forward to having the first three games at home, so the fans can come out and support this year’s team.”

For the second consecutive season, the Cougars will open the regular season with a home contest against Middle Georgia State (Nov. 14). CSU defeated the Knights 95-74 in 2014. Two more home games will follow with dates against Carver (Nov. 17) and West Georgia (Nov. 21). From there, Columbus State will hit the road for four straight games against SIAC schools. The Cougars will travel to Albany, Ga. Nov. 28-29 for a weekend classic against Benedict and Albany State. CSU will take the next two weeks off before wrapping up non-conference play with neutral site contests in Birmingham, Ala. versus Lane (Dec. 11) and Miles (Dec. 12). Peach Belt Conference play opens for the Cougars on Dec. 17 as UNC Pembroke travels to Columbus. Two days later, USC Aiken will visit the Lumpkin Center in the final 2015 contest for the Cougars. The 2016 calendar year opens with four games over an eight-day stretch starting with trips to Francis Marion (Jan. 2) and Armstrong State (Jan. 4). Western division rivals Georgia Southwestern (Jan. 6) and Georgia College (Jan. 9) will make their annual trip to Columbus before the Cougars hit the road again. Moore and Columbus State play back-to-back road games at North Georgia (Jan. 13) and GRU Augusta (Jan. 16) before a five-game stretch alternating between home and road contests. The Cougars sandwich home dates against Lander (Jan. 19), Flagler (Jan. 27) and Clayton State (Feb. 3) around road trips to Young Harris (Jan. 23) and Georgia Southwestern (Jan. 30). Columbus State heads to Georgia College (Feb. 6) and Montevallo (Feb. 10), and then returns to the Lumpkin Center for the final three home games of the regular season. The Cougars play host to Young Harris (Feb. 13), Montevallo (Feb. 17) and North Georgia (Feb. 20) to wrap up the home schedule. The regular season concludes with a date at Clayton State on Feb. 24.

The PBC Tournament kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 27 with the quarterfinal round, followed by the semifinals and finals March 5-6. Columbus State will be looking to return to the conference finals after falling to Montevallo in the title game in March. The full schedule can be found on www.csucougars.com.
