Columbus Lions Announce Returning Players to 2016 Roster
Columbus Lions quarterback Casey Kacz began the 2015 season as a backup to former league MVP Antwon Young. He finished the season on top, helping the Lions clinch the 2015 PIFL championship and was named the league Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Lions are excited to announce Kacz will be returning to Columbus to help lead the 2016 team.
Kacz was dominating on the field all year, earning a Player of the Week nod from the PIFL in only his second start with the team. In a critical playoff game June 27ths, Kacz completed 26 of 31 passes, throwing for 9 touchdowns and the PIFL single-game playoff record 327 yards. In the July 6th championship game against the Richmond Raiders, Kacz went 16 for 26 for 187 yards and four touchdowns. “I’m excited to get Casey back, both as a player and as a person” says head coach Jason Gibson. “He understands the game as well as anybody, and I’m excited to see him build on the things he started during his rookie season. He can only get better and build on his success.”
Five other players from the 2015 championship team have also signed contracts to return to Columbus in 2016. Veteran defensive back Roshawn Marshall, along with rookies Dezmond Beverly, Michael Reeve, and Martin Davis will be back on the turf for the Lions. In his 2nd year with the Lions, Marshall led the team in interceptions with 5, including one returned for a touchdown. Despite only playing in six games for the 2015 season, Dez Beverly made an impressive showing on the field, finishing the regular season with 18 receptions for 164 yards and 5 touchdowns. Reeve spent most of the season on the Lions practice squad, but made his presence known in the final game of the regular season against the Alabama Hammers, when he caught 11 receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Kicker Lindsey Wolfe will also be returning, after scoring 95 points during the 2015 regular season, the second most on the team behind PIFL MVP Terrence Ebagua.
