Tybee Island preps for Tropical Storm Arthur

Tybee Island, GA(WSAV) – People along Georgia’s Tybee Island are preparing for possible impact from Arthur.

The Tropical Storm is expected to become a category one hurricane off the North Carolina coast Thursday.

Rescue officials warn it could also create dangerous rip currents along Tybee Island.

One person from the says, Tybee Ocean Rescue “It does bring in the swells and causes the waves to get up a little bit higher, which also causes the volume of the water to come up. So that volume of water that’s coming in has to return to the sea somehow. That’s what we call basically a rip current.”

There are red flags on the beach warning of strong surf.

Authorities advise anyone who plans to swim in the ocean to stay visible to lifeguards.
