Candidate lives outside district but plans to move

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A prominent contender for Alabama’s 6th Congressional District lives outside of the district he is seeking to represent.

Will Brooke’s Birmingham home is in Alabama’s 7th Congressional District, after a 2011 redistricting plan moved the boundary a few hundred feet south of his house.

However, the Harbert Management Corp. executive says the 6th District has been home for almost all of his life.

Federal law does not require federal candidates to live where they run for office. However, Brooke said he and his wife are in the process of moving into a new home they bought within the 6th District’s boundaries.

He said it didn’t feel right to ask other people to vote for him if he couldn’t vote for himself.
