Kern County, CA (CNN) – One of California’s biggest industries is fighting for its future.

Citrus growers are gearing up the battle against a bug that can be deadly for citrus trees.

The insect is the “Asian citrus psyllid”and it first turned up a couple years ago.

With spring here, the fight is now on in orchards and neighborhoods.

The county agriculture commission is putting out 2,500 traps so biologists can see if psyllids turn up.
