Gordo man convicted of manslaughter in ex’s death

GREENSBORO, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama man has been convicted of manslaughter and corpse abuse in the death of his ex-wife.

Al.com
reports that 37-year-old David Todd Stephens was convicted Friday. He
had been charged with capital murder after Tonya Hyche Stephens was
found dead near his parents' home in Gordo. Court records show a jury
found him guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Tonya
Stephens' body had been dismembered, burned and buried when it was found
in January 2009, about two weeks after she was reported missing.

A
friend of Tonya Stephens said she last spoke to the 30-year-old as
Stephens drove to her ex-husband's home to pick up their young son.

Todd Stephens' father told The Tuscaloosa News in 2009 he called police after his son confessed to the killing.
