Trying to pass an emergency spending bill

WASHINGTON (AP) — The
Democratic-controlled Senate is on its way toward defeating tea party
attempts to protest President Barack Obama's health care law by delaying
a must-pass emergency spending bill.

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz
has spent more than 12 hours on the Senate floor, publicly criticizing
the health care law and the Democrats' efforts to remove a provision out
of the House version of the spending bill that would “defund” health
care.
