Man with HIV bites Columbus police officer

COLLUMBUS, GA – A Columbus man infected with HIV pleads not guilty to biting a police officer.

45-year-old Tommy Carter is facing multiple charges including aggravated assault on a police officer and reckless conduct causing harm with HIV.

Officials say officers responded to Forsyth Street Thursday to check on a wanted man when they came into contact with Carter.

After a foot chase, Carter allegedly bit an officer on the arm, and according to officials, caused a substantial amount of blood loss.

Carter is being held in the Muscogee County Jail on a $35,000.
