Budget cuts could mean Muscogee County school closures
COLUMBUS, GA – Drastic cuts to the local school budget has administrators proposing drastic changes in Muscogee County.
Board Member Cathy Williams tells NBC 38 the state just cut $6 million from the local school budget and more cuts are pending.
Next week's agenda reflects the heavy toll such a strain puts on the district. Administrators are proposing closing some schools, including Edgewood Elementary in East Columbus. Williams tells WLTZ the school district was already cut “to the bone.”
This weekend the Board is also interviewing finalists for the superintendent position in Atlanta.
